Midwest Surgical Hospital takes care of you, and those who care for you. In addition to our expert surgical services, our facility offers many amenities to make your visit as pleasant as possible by providing a secure and comfortable environment.

Patient Rooms

We understand that comfort and safety are key to the success of your surgery and recovery so we offer hospital accommodations designed with that in mind. We do our best to keep medical equipment unobtrusively within reach, while emphasizing amenities like expansive windows, quality entertainment systems, visitor-friendly furniture, and ample cupboard space.

Wireless Internet

Internet service is available in the building at no charge.

Waiting Areas

Midwest Surgical Hospital offers comfortable and spacious waiting areas, with limited amenities.

Kitchen

Our team of chefs is on call in our professional kitchen facility to prepare gourmet meals from scratch; our menu is anything but “hospital food.”

Parking

For the convenience of family and friends, a visitor parking lot is located directly out front of hospital main entrance.

Visiting Hours

Normal visiting hours are from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. The front door to the building is locked at 6:00 pm. To enter Recovery Care while the door is locked, press the intercom button at the east entrance door.

Before Surgery

One to Two Weeks Prior to Surgery

Your physician will ask you to call your primary care physician to schedule an appointment if you have been directed to have a history and physical with labs and EKG if necessary. Please make arrangements with your primary care physician to have this done.

You will receive a phone call from our staff several days prior to surgery to go over instructions and to give you another opportunity to ask questions. If you happen to miss our call, please contact us at (402) 399-1952. Tours are available upon request.

• You will be instructed to discontinue all blood thinning agents and diet medications 1-2 weeks prior to your surgery.
• Call your physician if you develop a cold, fever, cough, or sore throat.

Day/Night Before Surgery

• Avoid alcoholic beverages or smoking 24 hours prior to surgery.
• Avoid wearing nail polish or heavy make-up.
• Leave valuables at home (money, jewelry, etc.).

An empty stomach is essential for safe anesthesiology and surgery. DO NOT eat or drink anything (including water, gum, or mints) after midnight the night before surgery.

Day of Surgery

• Please bring Insurance card and Picture ID to make your registration process go smoothly.
• Bring a list of your current medications.
• Bring a storage case for glasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids.
• Be sure to wear comfortable clothing.

If you are under the age of 19, your parent or guardian MUST be present BEFORE your surgery and sign a consent form in order for us to treat you. Also, You will need someone who is over 19 years of age to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours if you are having anesthesia. This is very important for your safety.

We will provide you with a patient gown, robe, and slippers. An anesthesiology staff member will meet with you to discuss the type of anesthesia you will have.

Occasionally, surgery may be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control. Should delays occur, we will keep you informed.

After Surgery/Recovery Time

Depending on the type of anesthesia used, the nature of your procedure, and your post-operative condition, you will either be seated in the recliner area before going home, or made comfortable in one of our private suites for an overnight, inpatient stay.

Your family and care partners are welcome. We encourage their participation in your recovery.

Patients are discharged after the physician or physician’s office representative approves release. You, your family member, or care partner will receive pertinent instructions to ensure a positive recovery while at home.

For your safety, we can not permit you to drive yourself home. We advise that you arrange for someone to remain with you for the first few days following your surgery. If you go home the same day of surgery, you must have an adult stay with you for 24 hours.

In consideration of our shared goal supporting patient success before, during, and after surgery, please be mindful of these Hospital regulations:

• Substitute Mylar balloons for latex.
• Set cellular phones to low or vibrate.
• Minimize conversations in patient care areas.
• Midwest Surgical Hospital maintains a smoke-free environment.
